Puri Province. So this is a very ancient custom or practice. generations of people are celebrating this festival. So this is the Mercy form of lord Jagannatha, lord Jagannatha is not manifested to nondevotees, or atheistic people in other yugas whereas In Kaliyuga he is manifested to all. Even people who do not go to the temple can still see the lord near their houses, just in front of their house even if they are not interested in Jagannatha even if they are not a devotee of lord Jagannatha, lord Jagannatha visits the houses even atheists, poor beggars, even untouchables, he does not make any distinction he sees the good qualities in us, he visits almost all the houses, and there is no partiality whether one is rich or poor lord Jagannatha, is the father of all the living entities, he is impartial.
So, he visits. The devotees. So normally what happens we visit Lord in his temple. But here in the ratha yatra festival Lord visits, our place, near our own house, our streets, or at our workplaces which is the specialty of this festival. This has been practiced for many generations. There are various glories, and various pastimes connected with this festival.
